Singapore tightens casino advertising legislation

(Jamma) Singapore lawmakers have announced plans to tighten casino advertising rules to aid the nation's efforts to limit what it commonly refers to as 'the social impact of its two casino resorts on city residents- State ". The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports, said in a statement it had expanded the Regulation on Casino Control on Advertising, to cover activities promotions, including membership campaigns and loyalty programs, that had not previously been regulated.

“Casinos are designed to be tourism products and must remain so. We are ready to strengthen social guarantees to the extent necessary to ensure that our internal market is not targeted,” said Community, Youth and Sports Development Minister Chan Chun Sing.

Under Singapore's advertising regulations, the island's two casino operators – Genting Singapore and Las Vegas Sands – must obtain permission from the Ministry for all forms of casino advertising and promotion, media-related activities and community sponsorships. “Otherwise, – added the minister – they will risk fines of up to 80 dollars”.
