Venice. Casino sentenced for replacing striking workers

(Jamma) It was New Year's Eve when the staff of the Venice Casino stopped work and went on strike. The CEO hurriedly replaced staff so that the business could continue smoothly.
The attitude was defined as anti-union and in recent days the magistrate agreed with the union forcing the Casino to reimburse the costs of the proceedings. For the Casino, this is not the first time it has had to deal with a conviction by the Labor Court: it had already happened in 2009.
The New Year's Eve strike did not come as a surprise, but was launched with 72 hours' notice, with precise indications as to how it would take place and when it would start. But the managing director, as the workers explain, "didn't summon us and simply replaced the staff for the strike". Furthermore, a representative was allegedly denied access to the Casino, as he was on strike and could not afford to enter.
"Despite the magistrate's no - the union explains - we will proceed with our lawyer to ask for the opening of a criminal proceeding".
