Avv. Ripamonti on Scratch and Win advertising: "I hope that the Public Prosecutor's Office will be able to shed light on the case and prosecute those responsible"

(Jamma) A new complaint on the front of gaming and gaming addiction was filed today by Codacons with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome and the Antitrust. To fall into the sights of the association, the new Scratch and Win advertisement that appears on newspapers, billboards and websites, in which appears the words "10 years of shopping do not go by fast", with in the background a woman intent on buying shoes in a shoe shop, and a man with a long beard surrounded by envelopes and parcels, waiting outside looking at the clock, and further down the words "With 2.000 euros a month for 10 years, you can enjoy your purchases in peace".
This is extremely dangerous advertising, because it leverages two different addictions: the compulsive buying syndrome, also known as "oniomania", and ludopathy, i.e. gambling addiction - says Codacons - Associating winnings through scratch cards with possibility of shopping for 10 years, is a choice that risks causing damage to the weakest subjects, with particular reference to those suffering from more or less serious forms of oniomania. In essence, the advertising in question risks creating a multiplier effect on the players' addictions.
For this reason, Codacons has asked the Antitrust to block the advertising message, and the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office to verify if there are elements to open an investigation against the State Monopolies and the Ministry of Economic Development, for the crimes that will be identified .
