(Jamma) "When does the Minister of Health Beatrice Lorenzin intend to follow up on what was foreseen by the Balduzzi decree with reference to the updating of the essential levels of assistance and in particular to the inclusion of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services aimed at people affected by gambling addiction". This was asked by Daniela Sbrollini (Pd) in a question presented to the Ministry of Health.

“Ludopathy – declared Sbrollini – means the inability to resist the impulse to gamble or make bets, despite the fact that the affected individual is aware that this can lead to serious consequences;
to continue to devote themselves to gambling and betting, those affected by ludopathy neglect their studies or work and can commit theft or fraud. This pathology shares some traits of obsessive compulsive disorder, but represents an entity in itself; during periods of stress or depression, the urge to engage in gambling for people affected by it can become completely uncontrollable, exposing them to serious personal and social consequences; gambling addiction can lead to financial setbacks, compromised relationships and divorce, loss of job, development of drug or alcohol addiction and violence up to even suicide; according to some authors, gambling addiction is the fastest growing addiction pathology among young people and adults; according to some estimates, gambling addiction affects about 4 percent of the population, thus representing an important public health problem; article 5, paragraph 2 of decree-law n.158 of 2012 provides: «With the same procedure referred to in paragraph 1 and in compliance with the planned balances of public finance, the essential levels of assistance are updated with reference to the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation services aimed at people affected by ludopathy, understood as a pathology that characterizes subjects affected by gambling syndrome with cash winnings, as defined by the World Health Organization (GAP)».

The Hon. of Pd Daniela Sbrollini after having presented a question to the Ministry of Health to ask for the inclusion of the treatment of the Gap in the Lea, presented a bill containing «Amendment to article 7 of the decree-law of 13 September 2012, n. 158, converted, with amendments, by law 8 November 2012, n. 189, on the subject of limits on the opening of gaming halls and the operating hours of legal gaming machines".

The pdl in the coming weeks will be assigned to the standing commissions for examination in the referring office.
