(Jamma) The municipal councilor of Progetto Reggio Giacomo Giovannini returns to the subject of "gambling" and presents a motion for the Municipality of Reggio Emilia to give a further sign of active commitment on this delicate front.

"Just as it happens for the installation of telephone masts, the State also discharges the social costs on gambling on the Municipalities while it is very capable in collecting the millionaires' proceeds deriving from concessions and bets" said the party group leader.
Giovannini then added that several times, in the institutional forums "there was talk of this problem, asking for more rigid regulation, from an urban planning point of view, regarding the establishment of new cinemas, which was implemented in the new building regulation, so much so that our specific proposal not to allow parking monetisations, for example, has already been repeated by the Municipality of Milan”.
According to the adviser, now is the time to "take a further step, since this big business also has repercussions in public places that install few machines: in fact, there are very numerous cases of thefts in bars caused by the presence of slot machines, just as the cases are increasing of conflict between managers and customers or even of small or large gambling addiction crimes committed by the customers themselves”.
From this point of view, according to Giovannini, “shopkeepers could be interested in renouncing the integration of their income through slots, if, for example, they were offered a project to reduce local taxes. At the same time, we believe it is necessary to support a widespread political initiative that starts from the bottom to support different legislation and greater powers for mayors in the matter such as the one initiated by the Legautonomie della Lombardia".
In this regard, Progetto Reggio presented a motion on the issue, "so that our Municipality can give a further sign of active commitment on this delicate front".
