Online game. Barnier (EU): "The EC will soon intervene on the infringement procedures opened for non-compliant states"

(Jamma) "The Commission is currently reviewing all ongoing infringement procedures and appeals relating to gambling services," said Michel Barnier, Commissioner for Internal Market, in answering a question put by Swedish MP Christofer Fjellner requesting information on the state of play of the infringement proceedings against Sweden and Germany.

“In its communication “Towards a comprehensive European framework for online gambling”, adopted on 23 October 2012, the Commission – explained Barnier – announced that it will speed up the completion of the assessment of national provisions in pending infringement cases and complaints and will take enforcement measures where necessary. Following the adoption of the Communication, the Commission services contacted the Member States against which infringement procedures and complaints had been opened and requested the factual and legal (updated) information necessary for the assessment of the compatibility of the national rules of the game with Community law. The Commission is finalizing its assessment and will take the necessary measures in good time".
