After closing of the investigation for alleged violation of the rules on gambling advertising, the fine contested against Twitter by AGCOM would be 1,35 million euros: that is, 150 thousand euros for each of the 9 profiles that allegedly violated the law.

Il Sole 24Ore anticipated this two days before the meeting of the AGCOM Council where the sanctioning measure would have been approved.

The Authority would have contested the lack of 'human' control with respect to the ban introduced in 2028 with the Dignity Decree. The profiles from which the complaints would have a blue tick, which means having a account with an active subscription to X Premium, a service the company provides with a 72-hour verification of eligibility criteria. A procedure of this kind, according to Agcom, cannot be carried out without human control and this means that X could not have failed to know.

The penalty is resulting from the same dispute which also involves the YouTube platform and for which a fine of 450.000 euros was contested against Google Ireland.
