The director of the Customs and Monopolies Agency, Roberto Alesse, met the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor, Giovanni Melillo, in the Agency's headquarters in Piazza Mastai, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate.

The Protocol renews the methods that govern the relationships between the DNAA and the judicial police personnel of the ADM, coordinated by the Anti-Fraud Directorate, directed by the ordinary magistrate, Sergio Gallo, improving the efficiency of the respective tools for combating criminal phenomena.

“With the support of the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate, we are sure that we will be able to play an increasingly incisive role in the fight against illegality. We are aware of the important challenges that await us. Our intelligence systems must adapt to a rapidly changing world, to seize the opportunities offered by technological progress and the evolution of the legal system. The innovations coming from artificial intelligence but also from growing globalization suggest, for example, the creation of a single supranational customs authority” said Roberto Alesse during the meeting.

“Institutional cooperation with the ADM is an ancient commitment that must be renewed and developed by looking towards common challenges, such as that of technological innovation. The information flows produced

from the Agency are of fundamental importance to us. I hope that there are opportunities for frequent discussion and mutual monitoring, because the protocols must evolve in their practical application" underlined Prosecutor Melillo.
