Slot machines. Barnier (EU Commissioner): ''Member States to organize the gaming offer, in compliance with the CJEU'

(Jamma) “It is up to the Member States to organize the supply of gambling, in full compliance with the principles established by the Court of Justice of the EU, including the objectives of their gambling policy and the level of protection pursued in the general interest ”.

The European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Michel Barnier, he thus replied toquestion posed by MEP Aldo Patriciello which asked the Commission if it believed that the time had come for a homologation between the laws of the Member States in order to regulate the diffusion of slot machines throughout the European Union and if it considered it necessary to introduce controls on access to slot machines through the entering the tax code.

Yet another response for the European Commissioner who was keen to underline that: "Member States can therefore establish rules concerning the installation of slot machines, rules which however must comply with EU law, in particular as regards the condition that national gambling policies are consistent and non-discriminatory”.

In its communication "Towards a comprehensive European regulatory framework for online gambling" - he continued - the Commission proposes a number of initiatives that address a range of issues. These include the commitment to study the possibility of an EU standard on gaming equipment, in order to ensure a similar level of safety in gambling across the EU”.
