Scurria (European Parliament): "New regulation on online gambling approved"

(Jamma) “Today the European Culture Commission took a step forward with the approval of the regulation on online gambling in the European Union. It is essential to have a common regulation, which is uniform in all EU countries to identify and fight online gambling operators involved in illegal activities, such as for example match-fixing or betting on competitions in which, unfortunately, many minors are often involved. Nearly 2% of the European population suffers from gambling addiction and easy access to gambling websites is likely to increase this percentage, especially among teenagers.

In my opinion, it is therefore necessary to implement effective preventive measures, such as, for example, the prevention of gambling among young people in schools and community centres”.

This is what Marco Scurria, MEP of the Brothers of Italy and EPP coordinator in the Culture Commission declares.
