PE: 750 amendments presented to the anti-money laundering project

(Jamma) This morning the European Parliament's Special Committee on Organized Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering voted on the interim report on the 'Draft Report on Organized Crime, Corruption and Money Laundering: recommendations regarding actions and initiatives to be undertaken', drawn up by the honorable rapporteur Salvatore Iacolino. CRIM members tabled nearly 750 amendments to the draft report.

Iacolino's report, we recall, recommended - in relation to the gaming sector - to "prevent anonymity in online gambling, allowing the identification of the servers that host them and developing information systems that allow complete tracking of cash movements made through online and offline games”. It also proposed to accept “the extension of the scope of the so-called fourth anti-money laundering directive to the gambling sector; calls on the Member States to provide a regulatory framework against money laundering phenomena for bets on sports competitions, defining adequate levels of sanctions and supporting monitoring mechanisms involving sports federations, associations and online and offline operators".

The plenary is expected to adopt this report by 13 June.
