Cagliari. Archbishop Miglio exhorts the mayors: "United to face worrying phenomena such as gambling addiction"
(Jamma) From today it is possible to join the Network against gaming addiction of the Municipality of Milan, the coordination table created by the Department of Social Policies and open to all entities and organizations involved in tackling problems relating to gambling addiction.
There are two areas of work envisaged by the Network. The first is related to prevention activities. Among the proposals, the establishment of a week for the prevention of gambling addiction aimed at middle schoolers, high schools and, with specific initiatives, recreational and cultural social centers for the elderly and multifunctional aggregation centres; the creation of an information spot to be broadcast on public transport; a public notice aimed at communication professionals for the creation of a "Noslot" logo to give to the city.
The second area relates to law enforcement activities and provides for the opening of a dedicated telephone number for reporting social cases or criminal activities and the opening of information and assistance desks in each of the decentralized areas, by November 2013 and in collaboration with the District Councils. Other measures that the Network wants to put in place concern forms of public recognition for merchants who do not accept slot machines in their establishments and "healthy gaming" initiatives to be organized within some confiscated properties.
“The Internet is an important step in continuing to give visibility to the phenomenon of gambling addiction and to the interventions put in place to combat it – declared the Councilor for Social Policies and Health Culture, Pierfrancesco Majorino – Our proposals aim to increase people's awareness on the subject, supporting positive behaviors and empowering all the actors involved, starting with the local health authority to which we ask to become part of the network. These are the current margins of maneuver for a municipality. We hope that the announced regional law against gambling addiction, to which the network is available and open to making its contribution, will give greater powers to municipal administrations, starting with the possibility of influencing the opening and closing of game rooms and video lottery venues".
The first meeting of the Network will be held on July 4th.
