Mef. Gaming taxes and compulsive gambling in the 2013 Economic and Financial Document

(Jamma) “After eight quarters of contraction, the Italian economy seems to have finally started towards a recovery. During a recession unprecedented in its history, Italy lost more than 8 percentage points of GDP” . This is the premise with which the Ministry of the Economy introduces the Economics and Finance document for 2013.

“Economic policy - he continues - now has two priorities: to strengthen the current recovery and to intervene on the factors that limit competitiveness and productivity in the Italian economy to increase economic growth and employment. Short-term action and structural reforms must be closely linked”. Among the interventions listed among the major revenues are expected "the increase in excise duties on alcohol, smoking products, mineral oils and measures relating to games, the

revision of the maximum expenditure limit for deductible insurance premiums for IRPEF purposes, the increase in VAT rates on the supply of food and drinks with vending machines”. A hint also to the "measures related to prevention" including the future "National Prevention Plan" which will modify and update "the current instrument, paying attention to the prevention of all risky behaviors (a sedentary lifestyle, excessive eating, smoking, pathological gambling addiction, consumption of alcoholic substances, with a particular focus on young people), and drug addiction. A reference also to the recent decree on the subject of Imu, among the effects of which on the subject of increased revenues, the "compensation for damages to the tax authorities by telematic network concessionaires of lawful gaming" is envisaged.
