Brunei Minister of the Interior Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Ahmaddin Abdul Rahman announced that the crane type entertainment machine has been classified as a 'prohibited machine' as it has elements of gambling. The communication was made official as a response to a question raised by Legislative Council member Pengiran Isa Aliuddin.

The minister said the machine is banned under Chapter 181 of the Public Entertainment Act, companies that have it available are therefore advised to stop or cease operation.

According to the Fatwas published by the Office of the State Mufti on December 18, 2023, the machine has been classified as haram as it is a game of chance, the minister added.

The ministry, through district offices, identified the companies authorized to operate the machine before issuing the Fatwa, adding that notices to terminate the license will be issued.
