Candiani (Ln-Aut): "For a moratorium on gambling, we will see today if the government will show sensitivity to the issue"

(Jamma) The League of Varese brings the battle against the slot machine to the Senate. In fact, today an agenda of the Carroccio will be discussed which asks to limit gambling in public places. An anti-slot machine measure, in short, which was formally presented by the whole Northern League parliamentary group, but which was born on the initiative of the Varese senator Stefano Candiani. Who, already as mayor of Tradate, had passed rules to limit the spread of this type of gambling.

«We are asking for a moratorium against a phenomenon that proliferates above all among the weakest sections of the population – explains Candiani – and we will finally see who really wants to put a stop to the social unease that often arises from the diffusion of gambling. Because everyone says they are in favor with words, but then they never do anything ».

In fact, the story of the slot machines represents an excellent income for the treasury coffers. «Every year the State collects 7 billion euros in taxes. We will see what they will do – adds the senator from Varese – In June I had already asked Letta to intervene on the matter. The other parliamentary groups presented, in turn, two motions, but much milder. I expect the government, if it really wants to show sensitivity on this issue, to remove the 7 billion it gets from this sector from the budget».

Candiani announces that he will also touch on the subject of the 98 billion euro maxi-evasion, which the Guardia di Finanza and the Court of Auditors have contested against some of the companies that manage the slot bars. Companies that, in the first years of legalization, would have forgotten to connect the machines to the Monopolies, thus paying less taxes. The fine that at the moment would have been imposed on the companies would amount to 2,5 billion, but the government, in order to quickly obtain the money to cover the hole that will be left by the Imu, would be willing to lower the figure even to 700 or even 500 million euros.

The battle against the "maximum discount" will be carried on in the Chamber, including the other parliamentary groups. The deputy of the Movimento5Stelle Cosimo Petraroli underlines how "in the face of tax evasion, at least the fine should cover half of the amount evaded".
