Cagliari. IDV group asks mayor to limit slot supply

(Jamma) The group of'Italia dei Valori in the municipal council of Cagliari submitted an agenda, first signatory Ferdinand Secchi, in which mayor Massimo Zedda and his council are asked to adhere to the mayors' manifesto for legality and against gambling and the entire city council is asked to implement all initiatives, including the modification of the municipal statute, to try to minimize the social and human damages that derive from gambling addiction.

«All the research we have consulted shows that the ever-increasing amount of games available, both in terms of number and in terms of temporal access possibilities, leads to an increase in the number of people who lose control becoming problem or pathological players. Addiction represents a problem that can upset the life of a person and his family nucleus - says Secchi -: this happens with gambling as with drugs, including alcohol. It is therefore necessary to act decisively to reverse the trend, because the situation risks becoming unsustainable, as demonstrated, most recently, by the data relating to the increase in the number of young people who gamble. For this reason, first of all we ask that the installation of additional slot machines be prohibited in Cagliari and the existing ones drastically reduced».
