Young people bet on bets and snub slots

(Jamma) The survey on the student population, carried out in the first months of 2013, by the Department of Anti-Drug Policies has allowed the collection of information on the gambling practice in the previous 12 months of children aged between 15 and 19 years.

About half of the overall cases reported having gambled in the last 12 months, with notable differences between males and females (60,6% vs. 38,1%); the practice of gambling in male subjects therefore has an overall frequency that is almost double. Observing in detail the degree of involvement in the game for males both have percentages of problematic gaming equal to 12,2 while pathological gaming was detected in 5,6% of cases (in females these values are respectively 2,1% and 0,8 .XNUMX%).

From what emerges, the gaming ban imposed on minors seems to work very well in the case of slots and video lotteries and much less for betting, online games and scratchcards.

Also the chronological age represents an element directly related to the practice of gambling as the practice and conditions of the game increase with age.

The geographical distribution shows a greater presence of practice and playing conditions in the center and in the south.

The economic data on the monthly expenditure incurred for gambling shows that in the majority of cases it is contained in 10 euros per month.

As already observed in the adult population, instant lotteries such as scratch cards are the most practiced type of game, followed by sports bets in general and often through the use of online games.

In students, the presence of gambling at least once a week is mainly due to sports betting, with involvement reaching 8% of the interviewees.
