“From today the public notice is online to identify economic operators interested in redeveloping and managing theCapannelle Racecourse, the oldest and most important public facility dedicated to horse racing in Rome and throughout Italy. After having saved the 2024 season with a bridge management that guaranteed the national calendar of trotting and gallop racing, avoiding the dismissal of hundreds of operators, with this announcement we look to the future by addressing potential private investors. We have launched an exploratory market survey in order to acquire requests for a public-private partnership from interested economic operators aimed at the redevelopment and management of the sports facility in compliance with the procedure referred to in art. 4 of Legislative Decree no. 38 of 2021. We are ready to receive and evaluate with the utmost attention any proposal that enhances this unique facility in the world as it deserves. A well-connected area, with the Grande Raccordo Anulare junction and the railway stop, already destined for greenery and public services of over 135 hectares with extraordinary potential, which could become a citadel of sport and entertainment with open-air spaces dedicated to multiple disciplines". This is what he says Honored Alexander, councilor for Sport, Tourism, Fashion and Major Events of Rome Capital.

“At the disposal of the proponents – adds Onorato – we have published the details of the urban planning framework of the area, with the possibility of retrain properties with uses other than sports that are functional to the usability of the facility with the sole exclusion of new residential building complexes. The concession will have a minimum duration of 6 years and starts from a minimum value of 27 million and 137 thousand euros of estimated turnover, a figure determined only on the basis of the amount of the annual subsidy assigned for 2024 by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and of the Forests. A value that may grow significantly in proportion to the projects developed by the proponents.
You have until June 6th to submit proposals: the offices of the Sports Department are available for any necessary clarification and to accompany the proposers in an inspection of the mandatory facility to present the project. The Capannelle Hippodrome, inaugurated in 1881, represents a point of reference for all national and international horse racing. It includes stable areas with the capacity to accommodate up to 1.000 horses and has a potential capacity of 20.000 spectators. The time has come – concludes Councilor Onorato – to relaunch it and fully exploit its potential, to project it into the future and make it economically sustainable and independent”.
