“We have decided to modernize the legislation, with a more substantial structure. We have tried to innovate the sector, modernizing our gaming offer. The game exists, so the authority's task is to regulate it. When this does not happen, dangerous distortions can occur. We found several points to regulate, in particular the AWPs and the institution of scratch cards. We tried to draw up a law that not only provided for an increase in revenue, but which put personal protection at the forefront. We cannot go and squeeze the player, we have tried to find the right balance between revenue and player protection, helping him by combating gambling addiction."
He said so Andrew Giani (in the photo), president of the State Games Authority of San Marino, speaking at the conference "The new regulation on San Marino winning machines between innovation and player protection" organized by Jamma as part of the Enada Primavera fair underway in Rimini.
“Compared to other European countries, San Marino has advantageous characteristics, such as legislative speed. Being a micro state, the rules that must be approved have a much faster process. Even listening to the institution's information on pathological gambling, we decided to take an extra step. We wanted to be at the forefront in modernizing the fleet and we did so by giving greater attention to pathological gambling. This rule was born like this, with close discussions also with operators. The State must act proactively, it must not suffer from gambling addiction", added Giani.
“When the decree was brought to the attention of our parliament we had already started studying the machines. Two parallel paths were taken, one legislative and one practical with work on the machines. We hope to see the first machines by the summer. As soon as the new machines come into operation, the old ones will be decommissioned. We are currently proceeding with the certification of the software", concluded Giani.
