“I wrote a letter to the President of the Chamber Fontana to warn him about the government's decree-law on the reorganization of the gaming sector, which has already been approved in Montecitorio and should be examined today in the Senate.

In my opinion, this is an inconsistent and inadequate provision with respect to the objectives of protecting vulnerable subjects and preventing gaming disorder phenomena. The player is left with the responsibility of choosing to adopt balance and the opportunity to reduce access to the game is lost, enormously underestimating the pathological aspect of the phenomenon. In this way, we end up giving, unfortunately, a positive image of the game.

Even more serious, perhaps, is the overcoming of the absolute ban on advertising introduced by us with the dignity decree. As if this were not enough, the licensees, who are the direct interested parties, are given control over the participation of players, ending up risking accepting the risk of access to the game by those most at risk, in particular minors, the elderly, people with disabilities, who together with their families are the real victims of gambling.

And although the measures of this provision have repercussions on the health of citizens, President Fontana did not deem it necessary to have the law examined by the Social Affairs Commission, even though we had made this need known. I therefore ask the President of the Chamber to contact his counterpart in the Senate La Russa, so that at least at Palazzo Madama the relevant effects that this provision can bring on health matters can be examined and evaluated".

Andrea Quartini, group leader of the 5 Star Movement in the Social Affairs Commission of the Chamber, wrote this in a note.
