Austria communicated yesterday to the European Commission a draft law that modifies the rules for the installation of gaming machines in Carinthia. The measure will end the observation period on July 17th.

In the future – we read in the provision for Carinthia – there will only be licenses for the installation and operation of gaming machines in specialized rooms. The further ability to install and use gaming machines on premises with a hospitality license will no longer apply.

The new law also expressly establishes that the holder of a gaming license is obliged not to allow players to participate in games by providing technical devices for withdrawing cash and technical devices for providing gaming bets through cashless payment at inside and outside the commercial premises.

The proposed amendment to the Carinthian Gambling and Gaming Machine Act does not lead to any expansion of the technical requirements that gaming machines must meet under the K-SGAG. However, as several provisions of the K-SGAG have been formally amended, this draft law will be subject to reporting in accordance with Directive (EU) 2015/1535.

The amendment to the K-SGAG aims to expand measures for the protection of players and the prevention of gambling addiction. Intervention on the gaming payment system also serves to prevent money laundering.
