Italian casinos to institutions: "We want a framework law"

(Jamma) "We are asking for a framework law and certain rules for a sector that today is a jungle". Thus the president of Federgioco, Marco Cambiaso, who is the administrator of the Sanremo Casino, summarizes the requests of the casinos to the institutions.

“The four Italian casinos (Sanremo, Campione d'Italia, Saint Vincent and Venice), in 2007 -Cambiaso affirms to Adnkronos- had collected 515 million euros, in 2012 they dropped to 332 million. It is a fact that indicates a crisis, and the crisis is essentially due to the continuous erosion of the market share due to the proliferation of so-called vending machines. Faced with this phenomenon, Federgioco is not asking for a prohibitionist policy but for the regulation of the sector. We have proposed an inter-ministerial table to tackle the crisis and arrive at a framework law and certain rules”.

“Let's not forget – adds Cambiaso – that the four casinos are owned by public entities that use the proceeds from gaming to provide services to citizens. Not only. Gambling addiction was not a mass phenomenon as long as the game was reserved for casinos, finding the machines at the bar or in the tobacconist's near the house is very different than having to travel to go to one of the four gambling halls of the peninsula. We collaborate with the Local Health Authority and Sert to combat gambling addiction, and the family members of a compulsive gambler can ask that they be banned from playing in a gambling hall. We are self-regulated. We need to take all these factors into account and intervene.
