“We compared a sample of 1.500 online interviews carried out among the population and 150 telephone interviews carried out among merchants. From 2021 to today, gaming motivations relating to the area of money have gradually reduced. The game is motivated by the search for challenge and competition. The motivations relating to addiction have become thinner over time. Only one Italian in ten says they have a profound knowledge of the sector. The gaming sector is seen today as not very industrial. 85% of Italians think that the phenomenon of illegal gambling is widespread on a national scale. For merchants this perception is reduced. In general it is a negative phenomenon that is greatly emphasized. 72,7% of those interviewed have played in the last 12 months. Illegal players are 12%, mainly men, 41 years old and resident in the South or in the Islands, live with a family and have a higher standard of living than average. The phenomenon of illegality is a serious phenomenon and 93% of businesses and 81% of the population are aware of it. Illegal gambling is mostly seen as something that can lead to problems with the law. Over the last two years, the percentage of people who believe that illegal gambling cannot be controlled has decreased. The idea has developed, both among the population and among the operators, that to combat illegality all those involved must carry out active work. Points of sale are important because they monitor and protect the legality of gaming and especially the operators are aware of this. For 84%, excessive gambling is considered a serious phenomenon. 71% of retailers think that players would know who to turn to in case of excessive gambling, but in reality only 19% of the population responded that they would know who to turn to. What we know is that the offer of cash games is increasingly assimilated to entertainment and leisure, it is a sector that today is characterized by prejudicial elements. Given these reflections, the importance of disseminating correct information in an attempt to bring the perception of the game closer to what is actual reality is highlighted."

He said so Ilaria Ugenti (in the photo), Corporate Reputation Leader Ipsos, speaking at the Chapter House of the Senate of the Republic at the event “Sustainability, responsibility and legality of public gaming in Italy”, organized by Luiss Business School in collaboration with Ipsos to present the second report on gaming market in Italy.
