Greece: draft law on tote betting notified in Brussels

(Jamma) The Greek government notified Brussels yesterday of the draft law containing a new regulatory framework for tote betting. The draft outlines new obligations for the manager, provisions on advertising and measures to ensure aside of the supervisory authority adequate control over the organization of bets related to sporting and horse racing events.

 

In particular, the project concerns the need to improve the functioning and performance of all types of tote betting to achieve objectives of general interest, including, on the one hand, the protection of minors and vulnerable subjects and, on the other, the safeguarding of public revenues from gambling and of the interests of the Greek government.

In the next three months, the text of the Greek law will be examined by the European Commission; the end of the stand still is scheduled for December 18th.
