The Gaming Authority of Spain (DGOJ) has published the 3rd Quarterly Report 2023GGR for the quarter amounted to €304,26 million, with a decrease of -2,67% quarter on quarter and an increase of 23,60% year on year.

As for the rest of the key figures, deposits and withdrawals of players, their rates of change were 11,87% and 8,07% year-on-year and -0,45% and -2,92% quarter-on-quarter, respectively.

Marketing expenses decreased by -4,93% quarter on quarter and i accounts new recorded an increase compared to the previous quarter, of 4,64%.

In the analysis of the GGR by game segments, it is observed that:

The 304,26 million euros of GGR are distributed as follows: 113,49 million euros in Betting (37,30%); 3,64 million euros in Bingo (1,20%); €160,26 million in Casino (52,67%); €0,05 million in Contests (0,01%) and €26,81 million in Poker (8,81%).

The segment of betting it has a rate of change of -14,86% quarter-on-quarter and 22,66% year-on-year. There was a decrease compared to the previous quarter; pre-match, -31,70%; in-played sports betting, -0,26%. Fixed odds bets fell by -9,52% and other fixed odds bets increased by 46,08%.

Bingo recorded growth of 2,91% quarter-on-quarter and a slight decline of -0,95% year-on-year.

In the segment of casino, there was a 6,94% quarter-over-quarter increase and an annual rate of change of 25,25%. Live roulette is the game with the highest growth rate, 27,81%, followed by slots, 25,94%, year on year. The quarter-over-quarter rates of change were: Black Jack, 11,47%; Slots, 8,09%; Live Roulette, 5,43%; Conventional roulette, -2,16%.

The competitions they recorded a decline of -68,37% quarter-on-quarter and an increase of 56,64% year-on-year. This segment continues to have irregular behavior with annual variation rates in the second quarter equal to 58,38% in 2020; -91% in 2021; -72,10% in 2022.

The poker presents an increase of 4,09% quarter on quarter and 22,03% on an annual basis. Poker tournaments had a rate of change of 3,37% quarter-over-quarter and 31,34% year-over-year. Poker cash increased 6,12% compared to the previous quarter and increased 2,06% compared to the same quarter last year.

In summary, the percentage distribution of GGR for different segments in this quarter of the period from 2020 to 2023 is shown in Table 2.

Marketing expenses amounted to €93,33 million for this quarter. It can be broken down into 11,57 million euros in affiliate expenses; 0,87 million euros in sponsorship; promotions €47,68; and advertising 33,20 million euros. Compared to the previous quarter, marketing expenses decreased by -4,93% and increased the annual variation by 12,01%. Quarter on quarter all concepts decreased: Sponsorship, -28,64%; Affiliates, -8,66%; Advertising, -5,97%; Promotions, -2,62%. Nonetheless, the year-over-year rates of change are positive: Sponsorships, 153,04%; Affiliates, 15,96%; Promotions, 11,87%; Advertising, 9,31%. The promotions are divided into the cost of the bonus included in the prizes, 12,28 million euros and the cost of the bonus not included in the prizes, 35,40 million euros.

The monthly average of active game accounts is 1.082.743, implying a decline of -4,58% quarter-on-quarter and an increase of 10,61% year-on-year. The monthly average of new ones game accounts is 107.570, with a growth of 4,64% quarter on quarter and 4,49% on an annual basis.
