The original production of the Masaf television station features 'the Captain' who tells, thanks to the voice of Luca Ward, his extraordinary career
The rustling of leaves moving in the wind, the distant noise of a horse's hoofbeats, a deep voice that projects you into the world of a champion, of the only horse capable of conquering not only Italy, but the entire world. EPIQA presents “I am Varenne, the son of the Wind”, an exclusive production of the Masaf television broadcaster, visible on digital terrestrial channel 151, on the Sky channel 220 platforms and on tivùsat channel 51. “This special on Varenne is the first original television production by EQUtv – commented Eugenio De Paoli, Operation and Product Manager of Epiqa and curator of the documentary -; and wants to set itself up as an example of valorisation not only of the EQUtv channel and of all the professionals who work for the TV broadcaster, but also of the heritage of horse racing. I would like to thank Varenne Futurity and Enzo Giordano for their precious collaboration, without which this project would not have been possible. Special thanks also to Luca Ward, who, with the professionalism that distinguishes him, gave "voice" in a masterful way to what I imagined to be Varenne's thoughts". With his Baio coat, a dark tobacco color with the characteristic white spot between the eyes, during his career he was nicknamed 'The Captain', rightfully entering the hearts of all fans of equestrian and non-equestrian competitions. An unprecedented point of view, that of the champion Varenne who, thanks to the voice of Luca Ward, talks about his successes and his falls, from his first race in Bologna, on 4 April 1998, when he broke the gallop and was disqualified, up to to the 2001 season, that of his consecration as dominator of the world trotting. A poetic journey into the past, thanks to the commentary of his exploits, and into the present, that of his current residence, at the 'Tenuta il Cigno', in the town of Villanterio, in the province of Pavia, looked after as always by his lad Daniela Zilli, where the documentary was filmed. The story of Varenne was created thanks to the filming and historical archive of EQUtv; it will be broadcast on the television station as a preview on Monday 26 February at 21.00 pm and, in repeat at the same time, on 19 March, 19 April and 19 May, when it will be the twenty-ninth year of its birth.
