Campania is the region with the highest expenditure for betting, poker and online slots. This is what we read in a Federconsumatori report on gambling in Italy.

Online gaming exceeded 2022 billion euros in 73, not only confirming the overtaking but doubling in numbers compared to 2019. In the first seven months of 2023, a further growth of 10% is recorded, making it probable that we will exceed 80 billion at the end of the year, in online alone. In the last year (ADM data processed by Federconsumatori) the average amount played (i.e. gaming collections and anything other than spending) per capita in Campania was 1.874 euros. In Sicily the figure drops to 1.806. In Veneto the lowest figure ever: 649 euros.

“In the first part of the ranking all the regions of the South are found. Obvious differences, data opposite to those of physical gaming (in the ranking of played per capita various northern regions are identified in the top positions), which can only be interpreted with the choice of mafias to use legal online gaming as a way of laundering dirty capital (an activity also widespread in other economic sectors characterized by strong irregularities, such as construction and public businesses). However, it should be remembered that the per capita is calculated on the basis of the player's place of residence, which he uses to play with his tax code and identity card data. A clarification which is certainly not sufficient to clarify the significant differences found. The clarifications that the ADM provided us from this point of view do not change our assessments, in some cases they strengthen them: "In general, however, it is specified that the gaming data relating to the municipality are not automatically attributable to the residents, especially for tourist locations, for geographical areas with high population intensity or in which there are concentrations of work structures (factories, public offices, shopping centres) or for sales points located on motorways or high-traffic roads." , we read in the Report.
