The Casino of Saint-Vincent in the front row against gambling addiction

(Jamma) A collaboration agreement will be signed tomorrow between the Casino of Saint-Vincent and the Local Health Authority of Valle d'Aosta. The Casino de la Vallée SpA (CAVA), the company that manages the Casino of Saint-Vincent, and the Local Health Authority of Valle d'Aosta, in particular through the structures of the SerD - Services for Addiction -, will sign a framework agreement on pathological gambling (GAP) tomorrow 25 June at 16 at the casino.

For CAVA it is a question of further applying the company's Code of Ethics which provides for the promotion of actions useful for avoiding pathological gambling.

In fact, therefore, the collaboration with the SerD will enhance and integrate the customer management techniques that the Aosta Valley Gaming Hall already applies. The Casino is in fact a safe environment, under video surveillance throughout the opening hours of the games and beyond. It protects minors who obviously cannot access the gaming halls; identifies the customer by recording every entry and every traceable money movement information. The Casino has always been attentive to pathological gambling situations by blocking access to 'disturbed' customers, often even at their own request, sometimes upon notification by the Games Management and always when there are reports from families. Now, the company intends to enhance the training of employees and collaborators so that in their approach with any pathological gamblers they know how to provide all the information to obtain the necessary assistance. “Casinos, thanks to the direct and continuous knowledge of their customers, have always been able to combat pathologies related to gambling - explains the sole director Luca Frigerio. - Thanks to the experience acquired, the casino of Saint-Vincent today still has plus a social responsibility in contributing to the fight against gambling addiction. And it can also offer institutions the contribution of a specific expertise on the motivations, expectations and experiences of regular players” .

Here are the main points of the collaboration with the SerD:

– training actions aimed at CAVA and SERD personnel

– study and analysis of data relating to pathologies and addictions

– observation and control initiatives

– promotion of well-being in the workplace of CAVA employees

– building a gaming culture that respects the citizen's health

– prevention/training actions for the population – young and old – which takes into consideration the playful aspect of life and the individual-game relationship

– construction of a regional network involving healthcare, gaming, law enforcement, institutional and voluntary workers based on a shared language and perspective in approaching the issue of gambling addiction.

However, gambling addiction is a phenomenon deriving above all from the practice of slot machines rather than green tables.

states Rodolfo Buat, personnel director of CAVA: “The data provided by the public structures show that the dependent subjects taken care of by the SerD of Valle d'Aosta increased from 4 in 2008 to 32 in 2012. Of these, 63% are o was a regular player of slots located in public places, 34% of other forms of authorized gaming and only 3% are or have been frequenters of the gambling house”

“However,- he concludes snack– the Casino of Saint-Vincent, aware that an emergency is underway, believes that it is part of its social responsibility to perfect its internal management models of the phenomenon and above all to contribute with its own resources and expertise to combat pathologies in the area ”.
