(Jamma) In recent years there has been a steady increase in the number of student gamblers, for the first time this year, there is a setback. There are about one million students who report having gambled for money in the last year. This is highlighted by the Espad Italia 2012 report produced by the Department of Epidemiology and Research on Health Services of the Institute of Clinical Physiology of the National Research Council of Pisa (Ifc-Cnr).

There are 630 thousand children under 18 who have spent at least one euro gambling. According to the survey - which involved 45 high school students and 516 schools across the peninsula - in the last year 45,3% of the students bet sums of money. Boys are decidedly more involved (55,1% vs. 35,8% of girls). For 60% of the players it was a one-time event (1-2 times), although 36% played three to nineteen times. A fifth of the boys, on the other hand, declared that they had gambled with sums of money more than twenty times during the year. It's still. Approximately 74% bet less than 10 euros a month on average, 20% from 11 to 50 euros and 6% over 51 euros. Male teenagers bet the most money, while the majority of girls spend less than 10 euros to play. “Although the majority are moderate gamblers and without any risk profile – explains Sabrina Molinaro, head of the research – 7% are problematic and 12% are at risk of gambling. According to the research, it is estimated that 100 students already have a moderate risk profile and 70 those with a problematic gambling style. Among the most popular games: the Scratch and Win/Lotto instant and the Lotto Superenalotto; the latter are particularly preferred by girls (58% and 23% respectively), while boys choose sports betting and Texas poker (30% and 19% respectively).

As emerged from the previous study, in 2012 it was the southern regions that played the most: more than 52% of students in the south said they had participated in games of this type; the primacy belongs to Calabria with 54%. In central Italy, the student players range from 46,6% in Umbria to 49% in Lazio. The shares decrease in the centre-north and throughout the north there are lower values ​​than in the rest of the country.
