Addressing the problems of those who have a pathological relationship with gambling requires a global approach to the difficulties they encounter. In fact, these are almost always situations that present a high degree of complexity: problems of various kinds, legal, economic, relational, for which the joint intervention of lawyers, accountants, jurists and social services is necessary.
It is therefore important that the help given, in particular that provided by support administrators, is able to address the "tangle" at 360 degrees, the intricate web of problems of the people and their families involved in the consequences of gambling.
It was discussed during a conference entitled “Support administration and pathological gambling: untangling the tangled” Thursday 25 January in the room on the XNUMXth floor of the headquarters of the Metropolitan City of Turin, which organized the afternoon of study in collaboration with the regional project Sgarbuglio, the desk financed through the Plan to combat gambling pathological and aimed at patients residing in the AslTo3 area and in the entire metropolitan area.
“The support administrator for particularly fragile adults – explained the councilor for social policies of the metropolitan city in her greetings, Valentina Cera – must take 'one step further', knowing that the role of the support administrator must go hand in hand with the therapeutic path, the life plan and the procedures to rebuild the economic position of those who are gamblers" .
The Metropolitan City of Turin has been working for years on gambling, as on other critical issues of vulnerable people who require the intervention of a support administrator, both starting from the experience of the Public Protection Office and, in conjunction with the guardianship judges and the socio-welfare and health services of the territory, since 2007 it has taken care of the best care of the people subjected to legal protection measures, enhancing their residual autonomy, both with the help desk on over-indebtedness, which offers people with serious debt situations the possibility of being oriented free of charge on the legal instruments and existing projects to face those critical moments that can economically and emotionally compromise the personal and family lives of many people.
Added to this path is membership of the Sgarbuglio project, coordinated by ASL To3: “The existence of the Sgarbuglio project desk at our institutional headquarters – explains Valentina Cera – represents a way to reduce the stigma towards the person who, due to their dependence, they put their family unit in economic difficulty: a neutral place that facilitates that relationship of trust which becomes fundamental when a person has to work on themselves and choose to face, even with the opening of a protection measure , one's weaknesses."
Representatives of the'ASL To3, of the Bar Association of Turin and Ivrea, of the Order of Accountants of Turin, consultants of the Sgarbuglio Desk, staff of the Public Protection Office of the Metropolitan City which examined the various aspects of problems relating to gambling, with the aim of increasingly putting services and opportunities online for those who have decided to tackle the "vice" of gambling.
