A document presented to the Council on Legislation proposes that telemarketing of gambling requires written approval and also proposes to impose higher fines on gambling companies that breach the Money Laundering Act. Furthermore, it is proposed that gambling companies with a Swedish license will have the right to access personal financial and health data that players themselves have provided, in order to be able to combat excessive gambling.

"We welcome the proposals from the consultation which allow for further measures to strengthen the regulation of the gambling market. It is also gratifying that the Government has now listened to the Swedish Gambling Authority's proposal to increase the maximum fines for violations of the Money Laundering Act“, says the general manager Camilla Rosenberg.

The changes are scheduled to come into force on 1 April 2024.
