"The tax and contribution income in the month of January overall show growth of 6.275 million euros (+8,9 percent) compared to the same period of the previous year. The observed dynamic is the result of the positive change in tax revenues (+5.601 million euros, +13,1 percent) and the growth, in cash terms, of contribution revenues (+674 million euros, +2,4 percent hundred)".

This is what we read in the last one monthly report on 'trend of tax and social security revenues, drawn up by the Department of Finance and the Department of General Accounting of the State.

"The tax revenue in the period considered they increased by 5.601 million euros (+13,1 percent) compared to the same period in 2022. The revenue from taxes accounted for in the State budget grew by 5.506 million euros (+13,2 percent). Collections from assessment and control activities are growing (+150 million euros, +18,8 percent) and revenues from local authorities (+84 million euros, +3,5 percent). Corrective items - which reduce state budget revenues - are increasing by 139 million euros compared to the same period in 2023 (6,6 percent). In the first month of 2024 – the report continues – the tax revenue, ascertained on the basis of the criterion of legal competence, amount to 47.274 million euros (+5.506 million euros, +13,2 percent). Revenues relating to direct taxes amounted to 33.632 million euros (+4.684 million euros, +16,2 percent); those relating to indirect taxes amounted to 13.642 million euros (+822 million euros, +6,4 percent). Among the revenues deriving from direct taxes, IRPEF revenue stood at 30.025 million euros (+3.281 million euros, +12,3 percent) mainly due to the increase in employee withholdings (+2.865 million euros , +11,1 percent) and the self-liquidation component (+414 million euros). IRES amounted to 886 million euros (+420 million euros, +90,1 percent). The trends in withholdings on profits distributed by legal entities are positive (+465 million euros, +67,6 percent) and in the substitute tax on income and withholdings on interest and other capital income (+130 million euros, +27,4 percent). Among indirect taxes, VAT revenues amount to 8.896 million euros (+720 million euros, +8,8 percent): 7.338 million euros (+691 million euros, +10,4 percent) derive from the component relating to internal trade; 1.558 million euros (+29 million euros, +1,9 percent) from the levy on imports. The revenue from the excise duty on energy products, their derivatives and similar products (mineral oils) is increasing (+105 million euros, +11,8 percent). Revenue from lotteries and other gaming activities amounted to 594 million euros, recording a decrease of 64 million euros (-9,7 percent)".

“In the month of January – highlights the report – the revenue relating to collections from assessment and control activities is equal to 948 million euros and records a positive change compared to the same period of the previous year (+150 million euros, +18,8 percent). The component relating to direct taxes (+120 million euros, +34,2 percent) and the component relating to indirect taxes (+30 million euros, +6,7 percent) are growing. The tax revenues of local authorities in the period they amounted to 2.481 million euros and recorded growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous year (+84 million euros, +3,5 percent). IRAP revenue increased (+50 million euros, +2,8 percent). The corrective posts in the period considered they amounted to 2.245 million euros, an increase compared to
to the corresponding period of last year (+139 million euros, +6,6 percent). Compensations relating to direct taxes increased (+63 million euros, +5,6 percent), compensations relating to indirect taxes (+65 million euros, +6,8 percent) and those relating to local authorities ( +11 million euros, +40,7 percent).

"The tax revenues from the state budget collected in the period - we read in the report - they amount to 46.475 million euros, up by 2.253 million euros compared to the same period in 2023 (+5,1 percent). Direct tax collections increased (+4.421 million euros, +16,0 percent), among which the growth in IRPEF revenue should be noted (+3.085 million euros, equal to +12,2 percent). Indirect tax collections decreased (-2.168 million euros, -13,0 percent). Among the latter, we highlight the decrease in VAT revenue (-2.416 million euros, equal to -19,4 percent) due to the increase in residual payments, referring to the internal trade component, recorded in the month of January 2023, equal to 5.642 million euros, compared to payments which in January 2024 amounted to 2.578 million euros. Net of residual payments, indirect tax revenue recorded an increase of 896 million euros (+8,1 percent) and VAT revenue showed a growth of 648 million euros (+9,5 percent)." .

"The contribution receipts for the month of January 2024 - the report further explains - amounted to 28.465 million euros, an increase of 674 million euros (+2,4 percent) compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. INPS contribution revenues amount to 27.415 million euros, an increase of 701 million euros compared to 2023 (+2,6 percent). This trend is the result of the growth in contributions from the private sector (+3,7 percent) and the decrease recorded in receipts from the management of public employees (-2,1 percent). The dynamics of this last component is affected by the greater collections - largely of a one-off nature - recorded in the month of January 2023, following the renewal of the public employment contracts for the three-year period 2019-2021 signed in the last two months of 2022, with the payment of the related arrears. INAIL insurance premiums amount to 123 million euros, a reduction of 59 million euros compared to the previous year. The contribution revenues of the privatized social security institutions amounted to 927 million euros, recording an increase of 3,6 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year", concludes the report.
