The 13th Interpol Meeting ended yesterday match-fixing task force, the annual meeting during which international law enforcement agencies and experts from all over the world discuss the phenomenon of match fixing, i.e. sporting events whose results are rigged even before the matches take place for the benefit of bettors.

La Italian delegation present at the meeting, which took place in Buenos Aires (Argentina), was chaired by the director of the Criminal Analysis Service of the Central Directorate of the Criminal Police Stefano Delfini, in his capacity as coordinator of the Sports Betting Investigation Group (Giss) and vice-president of the Unit sports betting information (Uiss).

During the meeting, the national best practice represented by the operations of the UISS and the GISS was illustrated, bodies that allow for the creation of an information synergy between the police forces and the world of sport, in order to prevent and counter attempts to infiltrate the crime in the sector as well as episodes of sports fraud.

Furthermore, the initiatives implemented by the GISS, an inter-force body, for the prevention of the manipulation of national and international sports competitions, through the in-depth analysis of reports of anomalous bets and the constant monitoring of open sources, were presented.

The Italian intervention also highlighted how sport constitutes an important tool for promoting the values ​​of correctness, respect and legality, which is essential to convey to the younger generations, as happens, for example, with the Integrity tour, an initiative promoted by the Department of Public Security together with the Serie B League and the Italian Footballers' Association.
