Paul Jarre, former Coordinator of the Services for Gambling Disorder of the Piedmont Region, has developed an analysis of data relating to the gambling market and the phenomenon of pathological gambling in Piemonte based on the data from the 2022 Blue Book, the GAPS Piedmont 2022 study and some previews on the 2023 online collection and on the data from the Regional Addictions Observatory

Collecting from physical play, practiced in bars, tobacconists or other physical establishments, showed a substantial decrease between 2012 and 2021, going from 5,1 to 2,8 billion euros (the figure, however, dated back to over 4,1 billion in '22 (4128 million ), with a post-pandemic growth rate higher than the national one), while the data on collections from the electronic channel (online gambling), following the national trend, showed a clear growth trend in recent years (although with a slightly lower than the rest of the country).

In fact, the online figure went from 1,3 billion played in Piedmont in 2016 to almost 4,1 billion in 2021 to reach 4313 million in 2022. If compared to the resident population, these figures were equivalent in 2022 to a per capita played of 973 euros on the physical network and 1017 euros on the electronic network (1990 total per capita) for each citizen resident in Piedmont, against a national average of 1068 and 1.238 euros respectively (2306 total per capita).

Much higher values are obviously found for the amount played per capita (and the amount lost) if compared exclusively to the Piedmontese population who declared they had played money at least once in the last year (in 2022 almost €6.900 played per capita among those who declared they had played at least once a year)
