“The new edition of the gaming observatory has made it possible to build a new model of analysis of the different types of players, more effective than the one developed in previous editions. In summary: 51% of Italians play games with cash prizes at least occasionally; one out of 10 Italians, despite having played at least occasionally in the past, has now abandoned this type of game; players fall into three similarly sized subtypes: 35% play scratch card only, superenalotto or lotteries; 32% play more games spending up to 20 euros a month; the remaining 33% play more games spending more than 20 euros a month”. That's what we read in fourth SWG research report, produced in collaboration with IGT, presented in Rome as part of the event organized by Formiche entitled “Giocare da grandi. The surveys of the Observatory on public gaming 2020-2023”.

“Going into more detail about participation in the different types of games with cash prizes – continues the research -, we can observe a certain stability of the data referring to regular players, while the number of players who usually play online and not from physical gaming points is slightly reduced. A phenomenon also observed in other fields and which seems to highlight a return to face-to-face activities after the extensive use of digital generated by the Covid period. The apparent contradictory nature of the data (on the one hand there is a reduction in the tendency to play online, on the other there is an increase in the propensity in this sense) can probably be explained precisely by the fact that the return to a desire for social gaming has not found, to date, an adequate response on the supply side, perhaps too concentrated on chasing customers who had moved online".
