(Jamma) The Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association announced today the signing of an affiliation partnership agreement with the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), the association of online gaming operators in the European Union. It is hoped that the move will help European policy makers learn more about online gaming in Gibraltar and enable Gibraltar-based gambling industries to have a say on important industry issues internationally.

The administrator of GBGA, Peter howitt, said: “I am delighted to announce our partnership with EGBA, as it represents an important milestone for our organization and the operators we represent. The partnership with EGBA will allow us to work in tandem to better represent Gibraltar's gaming operators in the European Union on key issues relating to consumer protection, money laundering and effective regulation in an increasingly competitive environment”.

“As well as learning more about how EU policy makers go about their jobs – continued Howitt – we hope that policy makers will gain a greater understanding of online gaming, how the gaming industry works in Gibraltar and why Gibraltar is one of the world leaders in the online gaming industry”.

The secretary general of the Egba, Maarten Haijer, commented: “We are very pleased to be working with the GBGA. Not only does the GBGA represent a significant portion of the EU's online gaming supply, but both organizations share the vision of a tightly regulated, cross-border gaming industry aware of priorities relating to high standards and consumer protection. We are therefore thrilled to welcome the GBGA to our association.”
