The doctor Marilisa Boffo, from Erasmus University Rotterdam, received a scholarship of $172.500 from International Center for Responsible Gaming (USA). This prestigious grant supports his pioneering project”A Safe Bet: design and evaluation of a responsible online gaming promotion framework tailored for players“, which aims to revolutionize responsible online gambling through a unique blend of behavioral science, digital design and artificial intelligence.

"Safe Bet” is an ambitious project started in 2022 whose goal is to design and evaluate an innovative framework for responsible online gaming. The initiative is innovative in its approach, combining insights from the gambling research literature with a human-centered design approach to develop new responsible gaming tools. The goal is to support players in maintaining sustainable gaming behaviors, preserving their gaming experience without compromising their well-being and preventing escalation into risky behaviors. An innovative feature is the commitment of all players by promoting player safety by reducing barriers to the use of player protection tools, as well as offering targeted interventions aimed at reducing harm to at-risk players.

The project stands out for its collaborative nature. This is a partnership with two gaming operators (Playtech and Holland Casino Online), the responsible gaming expert Prof. Dr. Michael Wohl (Carleton University, Canada) and the active participation of gamblers themselves, who are considered experts in shaping the project and are directly involved in the design of responsible gambling tools. This inclusive approach ensures that the responsible gambling interventions and strategies developed are tuned to the specific needs and preferences of gamblers.

Marilisa Boffo expresses his enthusiasm: “This grant marks a significant milestone in our efforts to promote sustainable gaming practices. By integrating behavioral insights with technological innovation, we are not only creating a framework for responsible gaming, but we are also enabling players to play by making informed choices. Our collaboration with industry partners and gamblers is key to the success of this project".
