“Gambling addiction and gambling, the new frontiers of silent epidemics” is the theme of the meeting which will take place on Thursday 25 January, at 16.30 pm, in the Terzani auditorium of the San Giorgio Library, in Pistoia. The event is organized by the Pistoia section of the Italian Federation of Women, Arts, Professions, Business (FIDAPA), with the patronage of the Pistoiese Health Society.

“It will be an opportunity to delve deeper into a pathology that is affecting an increasingly wider audience, especially young people – explains the president of the SdS, Anna Maria Celesti –. It is a relatively 'new' pathology, with which we are only now starting to become familiar but we need to investigate its causes, learn about it and treat it. Gambling addiction is a very delicate topic, which will be addressed during the conference from different points of view thanks to the interventions of experts in the subject".

In fact, the program includes reports from university professors, researchers, psychologists, local health authority managers, managers of the Judicial Police and the Carabinieri at the Pistoia Prosecutor's Office.

“It is a fact that more and more women are attracted by easy ways to increase their income – she states Mariarita Schiavo, president of the Pistoia section of FIDAPA -. All-round interventions are needed to understand and stem this phenomenon, leading to real support actions for the victims of gambling addiction. We would like this conference to be the beginning of a journey that informs people about the dangers of pathological gambling, a problem once experienced by the rich and which has now become the plague of the poorest".
