Today, on the occasion of European Sports Integrity Day, European Lotteries (EL) reiterates its strong commitment to fighting match fixing and safeguarding sporting integrity. In particular, EL is committed to raising standards in the field of integrity and adopts a zero-tolerance policy towards unethical behavior, particularly in sports betting. By applying rigorous standards, EL and its members ensure safe and fair operations, while reducing the risks associated with fraud and criminal infiltration.

By jeopardizing sporting ethics and the unpredictability that is the basis of every sporting competition, the very nature of sport is called into question, and therefore the public's interest in sport and the willingness of public and private sponsors to finance it . EL underlines the importance of national lotteries to preserve the honesty of sports betting, but above all to promote the positive value of sport.

EL works closely with like-minded stakeholders, such as European institutions, the Council of Europe (CoE), United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS), the World Lottery Association (WLA) and the European Sports NGO (ENGSO). EL continues to fully endorse and support the Macolin Convention, the only legally binding international treaty that promotes global cooperation to address the manipulation of sporting competitions.

This week, EL's participation in the EU Sports Forum (16-17 April) offers the opportunity to continue important dialogues with the European and international sports communities. Key topics of discussion include integrity, sustainability and gender equality.
