Fight against gambling disorder, the BVA DOXA "kindly responsible" project begins. Cangianelli (President of EGP-Fipe): “It is good to focus on nudging and enhancing the role of merchants. Prevention cannot come from the prohibitions introduced in the past"

Promote the responsible gaming leveraging education and training activities, through the application of behavioral sciences and, more specifically, of nudging (the so-called gentle, concrete and very simple nudges, which encourage responsible behavior without constraints). This is the theme of the research project "Kindly responsible" conducted in recent months by BVA DOXA with the support of some public game concessionaires and presented this morning at the LUMSA University.

Clearly visible signs to be posted in the rooms to encourage virtuous behavior and protect the psycho-physical well-being of the players, the possibility of self-regulation and establishing at the entrance to the room how much one wants to play, technologies available to the player to monitor their plays and sums spent, the possibility of rethinking the rooms as places that are not isolated but in constant contact with the outside. These are just some of the activities to be put into practice, on the one hand to prevent players at risk from falling into compulsive behavior, on the other to dispel the negative aura that very often hovers over the game, enhancing exclusively its playful and healthy aspects . All this with the involvement and fundamental support of the rooms and the qualified staff who work there.

“As EGP-FIPE we are very satisfied with the participation of numerous of our associated companies in the project conducted by BVA DOXA, to which they contributed with in-depth surveys carried out in the rooms and other types of sales points”, declared on the sidelines of the presentation EGP-FIPE President, Emmanuele Cangianelli (in the picture).

“The experience of colleagues active in our working groups was fundamental in carrying forward this important project, the outcome of which seems very encouraging. It is clear, in fact, that contact and interaction with consumers through "gentle nudges" can bring us closer to the goal we all set ourselves, that of conscious gaming and safe entertainment - continued Cangianelli -. The stalemate in distribution choices and prevention of pathological addictions caused by restrictive and partial regulations, such as distance meters or hourly reductions of some products, is clear for all to see: solutions that have reactivated the appetites of criminal organizations and caused heavy competitive distortions in the 'exercise of public gaming concessions'.

“For this reason, especially in this phase of “reorganization” of sector regulations – concluded the President of EGP-FIPE – We hope that regulators understand the opportunities offered by behavioral sciences for gambling as well. As a trade organization we will continue to engage with authoritative research institutes to maximize the capabilities of legal networks in interacting with clients, inducing them to make informed and rational choices. The latter approach is evidently more suitable and more effective than the prohibitions and limitations which to date do not guarantee the objectives of public interest".
