Vallio Terme (Bs): slots out, books in

(Jamma) The municipal administration of Vallio Terme opens its «campaign against gambling» with a truly singular initiative, which personally involves the «Lino Monchieri» library and a well-known establishment in the town.

The municipal administration, which is currently launching a program to raise citizens' awareness of the risks of gambling, through the intervention of the Councilor for Culture, Delio Pomelli, is deploying the library in an attempt to create a reading place where before the slot machines reigned.

The managers of a well-known restaurant in the town who have decided to eliminate slots from their establishment have willingly accepted the proposal; the space has been suitably set up and furnished with armchairs, tables and shelves. From the library comes the raw material, i.e. the volumes, loaned in rotation, and changed weekly.
The initiative, launched a few days ago, is enjoying unexpected success, so much so that further developments are already being imagined. «Maybe we'll add a small newspaper library to it, turning here the newspapers and magazines to which the library subscribes – speculates Federico Tumminello, who is following the project closely on behalf of the Pro loco -. And we are thinking of a sector dedicated to publishing on local topics, in particular texts that speak of the history and traditions of Vallio».
