Turin, Nomis (adviser) on gambling: "We are thinking of new lines of intervention"

(Jamma) The data of a research carried out by Seldon Ricerche snc on the gambling market in Turin was presented this morning in the Legality and Combating Mafia Phenomena Commission of the Municipality. It was presented by one of the company's founding partners, Davide Roccati, who provided data regarding the economic and social scope of gambling in our country. Almost everyone was involved: minors (25,9% of children between the ages of 7 and 11 played at least once), the elderly (a quarter of pensioners aged between 65 and 75 are gamblers), confirmed gambling addicts (800 ) and casual gamers (32 million). In Piedmont alone in 2011, 5,2 billion euros were played, 400 million estimated by research, invested in gaming in Turin. Other data, more centered on Turin, say that 92,4% of the 1590 premises with entertainment machines (slot machines and video lottery terminals - VLTs) are located less than 500 meters away from a school. The greatest diffusion of slots per inhabitant is found in districts 6 and 7 (with the highest concentration in the Aurora district, on average the poorest in the city), those with the least presence, in districts 1, 2 and 8 (which have the higher middle age income). There are only three city areas without places to play: the residential areas of the centre, of the Crocetta and of the hill; parks and cemeteries; industrial areas and the railway.
"The data provided is already quite significant, but the work of the commission certainly does not stop here - declared councilor Fosca Nomis who, for the occasion, chaired today's session of the commission - our intention is to explore the issue and propose guidelines to carry out all possible activities to combat gambling in our city”.
