(Jamma) Controversy in Cesenatico by the grillini group over the opening of new gambling centers which passed under the silence of the city administration.
“Certainly the commercial activity with a slot machine room, even if morally questionable, is legitimated to carry out its function. However - reports Alberto Papperini, municipal councilor of the 5 Star Movement - we would like to remind you that two months ago the City Council approved the motion proposal presented by the 5 Star Movement relating to the "manifesto against gambling", with which the commitment for the Municipality of Cesenatico to discourage this ludo-pathological phenomenon which affects many families in our area. One of the initiatives undertaken by the many Municipalities that approved this manifesto was the issuing of an ordinance which binds businesses that own slot machines not to be able to operate in the vicinity of sensitive, social and educational places in the city: schools, squares, libraries, historical and cultural centres”.
"The rather singular and totally inconsistent thing - Papperini points out - is that with resolution of the Giunta n.322 of 12 November 2013, the Buda Administration rejected the approval of this manifesto, extending the lease for another 2 and a half years of the property owned by the municipality to the company that manages the bingo hall and slot machines located at Atlantica. This choice, as well as being highly harmful to the city, does not respect what the City Council has decided, demonstrating the inconsistency, total indifference and lack of sensitivity of the Buda Administration on this issue ".
“Instead of encouraging the opening of slot machine rooms, recreational activities for young people, cultural and artistic initiatives should be restored. Young people don't need gambling halls, but spaces for music, theatre, art, sport and healthy entertainment. The engines of a community must be its own cultural and historical roots. The local tradition must function as a common thread for citizens who work and reside, in order to guarantee a system of solid social, cultural and historical values".
