Games and society. From the Lotto over 48 million euros for cultural heritage, from 500 million euros for L'Aquila

(Jamma) “The revenue from the Lotto paid in 2012 into the coffers of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, while for the reconstruction of L'Aquila, of the 3 billion collected by the State, only 500 million were paid”. This was stated by the Court of Auditors in the general state account for the financial year 2012.

Despite the 48.480.233,00 euros deriving from the game of lotto "the immense cultural and artistic heritage of our country ... has long suffered from little attention and this causes a progressive impoverishment of the same, also due to the gradual reduction of resources and investments". Suffice it to say that in a decade, the competent Ministry has lost 36,4% of the budget, 0,4% of the GDP is allocated to the sector (against 0,8 in France and 0,6 in Spain), investments they went from 0,39% in 2001 to 0,19% in 2011. “This situation – affirms the Court – has repercussions not only on the maintenance of assets, but also on the capacity of the sector to produce wealth and therefore to favor the development of the 'economy".

As far as L'Aquila is concerned, “there are reconstruction plans, after the 2009 earthquake which destroyed and damaged many works of art, through the streamlining of the bureaucratic structures (excluding the two deputy commissioners costing 800 euros).
So far, 533,8 million out of 892,6 allocated have been disbursed for the reconstruction of the historic centre; 358,7 million unspent are still available.
The State has collected at least 3 billion from the video-lottery sector which should have financed the reconstruction, but only 500 million have been directed to that purpose".
