In the first half of 2023, the Austrian financial police fined 2,8 million euros for violations of the gambling law.

The figure is equivalent to double the 1,4 million euro of fines in the first half of 2022.

Looking into all the investigations over the six months, the police issued a total of 11,2 million euros in fines. This means that gambling fines make up a quarter of total penalties during the period.

"The finance guard's checks in the fight against social fraud, the organized informal economy, tax evasion and illegal gambling are targeted and guarantee a level playing field," said Magnus Brunner, Austrian finance minister.

In the same period, 265 gaming devices were confiscated, an increase of 10,4% compared to the first half of 2022.
