It was held today Sports Integrity Workshop with Betting Entities, an event organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) e European Football Association (UEFA) to discuss the phenomenon of betting and matchfixing.

The event, scheduled for April 10th and 11th, was held at the prestigious Olympic House in Lausanne, Switzerland. During the meeting, strategies to prevent and combat match-fixing were discussed.

The event mainly focused on Euro 2024, in Germany, and the highly anticipated Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Vincent Ven, head of the Olympic Movement's Unit for the Prevention of Competition Manipulation and head of the Anti-Match-Fixing Unit at the UEFA Integrity and Regulation Division, highlighted the importance of the event as follows:

“The IOC-UEFA Integrity Workshop aims to bring together sports integrity experts from betting entities and sports governance bodies.”

“The aim is to promote an open and meaningful dialogue on collaboration for integrity by further strengthening cooperation between sports betting entities, the IOC, the Olympic Movement and UEFA.”

Representatives of politics, gambling regulators from different parts of the world and betting operators were present.

“Gambling regulators should lead by example by establishing a regulatory framework that facilitates investigations into the manipulation of sports competitions, ensures proper data collection and sharing, and promotes education and collaboration with stakeholders essential."

Antonio Abdilla Zerafa, head of the Financial Crime Compliance commission at the MGA, the Maltese gambling authority, expressed his position regarding the phenomenon of betting and the manipulation of sporting matches.
