(Jamma) Not a bust but close. The meetings "Beyond gambling there is more" conducted by ASL operators and experts in collaboration with the Municipality of Lecco are having a resounding failure.
To denounce the situation and in a certain way to sound the alarm for the indifference of the Lecco inhabitants towards the widespread problem of gambling addiction is Ivano Donato, municipal councilor for social policies and family support: "Unfortunately the city's response to these initiatives it is proving to be scarce, with few attendance at these meetings who want to be of knowledge as well as information. It seems that Lecco and its citizens don't feel the problem of gambling as a real or tangible problem or at least it seems that beyond generic initiatives, they don't want to know what lies behind the phenomenon of gaming”.
Councilor Donato underlines: “What is behind it is in fact much more than a moment of denunciation which is and still remains an important and fundamental aspect, unfortunately only to raise the problem but not to solve it. In fact, the first defeat is not accepting to know or, worse still, not recognizing that perhaps the problem could concern us closely“.
A brake on participation could be the entrance "ticket" to the meetings, the cost of 5 euros, even if there is no obligation to participate in all the meetings.
The first cycle of three evenings took place on 22nd, 29th April and 6th May during which indications and tools were offered to improve the level of intra-family and interpersonal relationships conditioned by gambling.
The first of three other meetings took place on 7 May (the next ones will be on 14 and 21 May) during which indications and concrete operating models will be provided to address the legal problems that gambling causes for families. Subsequently three meetings will be held (13, 24 and 27 May) where the mechanisms and illusions of gambling will be addressed; then there will be a cycle of four meetings (June 4, 11, 18 and 25) where the central theme will be the relational aspect and finally on June 6, 13, 20 and 27 in the last cycle the themes of sexuality and affectivity will be addressed .
“I don't want to believe that the brake on participation is the 5 euros requested“, concludes the councilor Donato discouraged.
