Mitjana sanctioned for 11 violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirms today that the French tennis player Leny Mitjana was suspended from playing the sport for a period of ten years and fined $20.000 for 11 violations of the Tennis Anti-Corruption Program (TACP).

The fine is linked to a recently concluded criminal case involving a match-fixing organization in Belgium. Collaboration between the ITIA and the Belgian authorities led to a five-year prison sentence for the union's leader, Grigor Sargsyan.

Mitjana – who achieved a career-high singles world ranking of 2018 in 458 – denied all allegations relating to match-fixing in 2017 and 2018. A hearing was held on 8 November 2023 before the independent counsel anti-corruption Phillipe Cavalieros.

The AHO Cavalieros held Mitjana responsible for violations of sections D.1.b, D.1.d, D.1.e and D.2.a.i of the TACP, which include facilitating betting, manipulating the outcome of bets matches, influencing other players not to do their best in matches, and failing to report corrupt approaches.

The suspension will run from the date of the decision (22 December 2023) until midnight on 21 December 2033.

During the period of ineligibility, the player is prohibited from playing, coaching or participating in any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by members of the ITIA (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, French Tennis Federation, Wimbledon and USTA) or any association national.

The ITIA is an independent body established by its members to promote, encourage, improve and safeguard the integrity of professional tennis throughout the world.
